The Cheryl Martin Challenge

I'm fundraising for...

May is Lung Health Awareness Month so we are again fundraising to support Lung Foundation Australia in honour of Cheryl Martin.

Cheryl was our Mum, Wife, Nan, and Mother in Law. She had asthma in childhood and in her later years developed COPD and bronchiectasis which ultimately took her life in March 2023. Cheryl had never smoked.

This year, we will be completing a number of individual challenges every day in May, culminating in a (very) cold plunge in the Yarra River on 7 June during the first week of winter.

By donating to our fundraiser, you are not only encouraging us to complete our challenges and honouring Cheryl, you are also helping Lung Foundation Australia fund research into lung health, spreading awareness of lung disease, and supporting those living with lung conditions.

 

Phil's Challenge: Eating one green food every day (aka "yuck, green stuff")

Melissa's Challenge: Walking 10,000 steps a day 

Andrew's Challenge: Riding 1km on an exercise bike every day (Andrew is recovering from open heart surgery so this is incredible!)

Rebecca's Challenge: 31 minutes on a pushbike every day 

Georgia's Challenge: Reading 31 book chapters 

Lincoln's Challenge: Shooting 31 basketball hoops a day

Friday 22nd May
You guys are amazing, thank you for all your support and your very generous donations! In under 3 weeks, we reached our goal of raising $5,000 for Lung Foundation Australia. We will be challenging ourselves daily until 31 May and then on 7 June we get in the Yarra to emerge with hypothermia and regret. This means you still have time to donate and honour Cheryl. Almost halfway!

Friday 15th May
It is two weeks into the challenge and we have almost reached our fundraising goal of $5,000.  Thank you to all of our sponsors so far!  We would love to raise as much money as possible for the Lung Foundation in honour of Cheryl.

We are smashing our daily challenge goals and are in denial that we will soon be getting into the icy Yarra River.

Off and running!

Sunday 3rd May
The challenge kicked off on Friday with great enthusiasm.

Phil tucked into a bowl of broad beans, Andrew cycled almost 2km, Melissa walked 12k steps, Lincoln got 31 baskets in, Georgia smashed through a book chapter, and Rebecca cycled for 31 minutes while watching The Eras Tour.
