I will walk with my lantern because...
I honour the memories of those taken from us too soon. My sister Aileen, a vibrant soul full of creativity and joy, passed away shortly after her 40th birthday following a brave battle with cancer. Despite living a healthy lifestyle, cancer found its way into her life, reminding us that this disease does not discriminate.
Aileen was diagnosed with non-small cell lung carcinoma, and it was then that I learned lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Australia.
As a research scientist at the University of Queensland, I now dedicate my work to improving the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. While scientific breakthroughs can take years, every effort brings us closer to a cure.
Beyond my research, I am committed to raising awareness and funds to support Australians living with lung cancer. I hope that my team and those around us can together make a meaningful difference and brighten the future for those affected by this disease.
