Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather

December 17, 1941 – November 9, 2025

A Life of Courage, Sacrifice, and Love

Hung was born in 1941, entering the world in the shadow of World War II. From his earliest years, life demanded strength, resilience, and an unwavering spirit. He survived the turmoil of two civil wars—enduring conflict, loss, and uncertainty across Vietnam, Cambodia, and beyond. Through every hardship, Hung held tightly to hope and to the belief that a safer future was possible for his family.

Journey to Freedom

Fleeing persecution and instability, Hung made the difficult and courageous decision to leave behind the world he knew in search of safety. In 1979, he arrived in Australia as a refugee with only $10 in his pocket, accompanied by his wife and their three young children. Though he came with almost nothing, he carried within him an abundance of determination, dignity, and the dreams of a better life.

That first step onto Australian soil marked not just a new beginning, but a quiet triumph—the moment his family’s future began to change.

Building a New Life

In his new homeland, Hung worked tirelessly to create the stability and opportunity he had long hoped for. He embraced every challenge with courage, and every sacrifice he made was guided by love for his family. Through hard work, humility, and perseverance, he built a life that allowed his children—and future generations—to grow, flourish, and dream freely.

Hung never forgot the hardship of his past, yet he chose to meet each day with gratitude. He found joy in simple moments, pride in the success of his loved ones, and strength in the community around him. His story became a testament to what faith, resilience, and love can achieve.

A Gentle Farewell

In his final years, Hung faced lung cancer with the same quiet strength that had shaped his entire life. Though his battle was brief and often difficult, he met it with courage and resilience. Held close in the care of those who cherished him, he left this world leaving behind a legacy of compassion, bravery, and a life lived with profound dignity.

A Legacy That Lives On

Hung leaves behind a legacy defined not by wealth or possessions, but by character: courage in adversity, humility in hardship, and love expressed through countless quiet acts of devotion. His life reminds us that even the most difficult journeys can lead to hope, and that the greatest gifts we leave behind are the values we live by.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and a man who gave everything so his family could have a brighter tomorrow.

Forever in Our Hearts

Though he is no longer with us, Hung’s spirit endures in the memories we cherish, in the stories passed down through generations, and in the lives shaped by his sacrifices. His journey, remarkable and inspiring, will never be forgotten.

May he rest in peace, knowing his life made a difference and his love remains with us always.

We’re fundraising in memory of Hung Ngo to support the important work of Lung Foundation Australia. If you’re able, please consider making a donation - large or small - will make a meaningful difference to individuals and families affected by lung cancer and lung disease.
