At Maurice Blackburn, we fight for people who have been diagnosed with serious illnesses as a result of workplace exposures, including asbestos-related diseases and other occupational lung conditions. Every day, our occupational diseases team walks alongside individuals and families facing life-changing diagnoses, many of them through no fault of their own. We've witnessed first-hand the courage and resilience these people show in the face of enormous adversity, and that experience has profoundly shaped our commitment to this cause.
That's why we're proud to host and walk in the Shine a Light on Lung Cancer community walk in Melbourne, in partnership with Lung Foundation Australia.
Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer death in Australia, yet it is still significantly underfunded compared to other cancers. It also carries a stigma that no other cancer does, too many people face a diagnosis and feel they have to justify it. We believe that needs to change.
For us, Shine a Light is about visibility and solidarity. It's a powerful statement that says: we see you, we stand with you, and you are not alone. Through our legal work, we advocate for individuals in courtrooms and boardrooms, but events like this let us advocate in a different and equally powerful way by showing up, walking side by side, and demonstrating that an entire community cares.
Every dollar raised goes towards life-saving research, better treatments, and support services that make a real difference to people and families navigating an incredibly difficult journey. We've been proud supporters of Lung Foundation Australia for approximately five years, and we're excited to bring our community together once again.
