$200,000 Goal

This year alone, more than 15,122 new Australian families will be touched by lung cancer. Despite being Australia’s biggest cancer killer, funding for life-changing research is devastatingly low. But where there is light, there is hope. For fourteen years, Lung Foundation Australia’s Shine a Light on Lung Cancer campaign has raised money to support ground-breaking lung cancer research and practical support.

Join a community walk

In November, we invite every Australian touched by lung cancer to join us for a Shine a Light Walk held in locations across the country. The community walks aim to raise awareness, break stigma, and provide a place of support to give hope and honour those we love. A lantern ceremony will be held at each location, where you can share, listen and take a moment to reflect. Register today for a location near you below.

Start your own fundraiser

Hosting your own fundraiser means you can get involved at any time, in any way. Your fundraiser could be a bake sale, personal challenge or a gala dinner – if you can imagine it, it can be done. How you’re making an impact

In Australia, more than 15,122 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year and almost 85% will be diagnosed at a late stage. That is 41 each day. It is our country’s most devastating cancer. While this is confronting, together we are making an undeniable impact on the future of lung cancer. In 2024, the lung cancer 5-year survival rate had increased by 2%.

Thanks to research, treatment advancements in the last 20 years has seen lung cancer survival rates increase more than any other cancer. Now more than ever, we need to work together and build on the momentum we’ve created to drive real and lasting change. There is still more work ahead, and we can’t win this race without your ongoing support.

Thanks to the money raised through the generosity of our community, Lung Foundation Australia provides seed funds to some of the best and brightest researchers to gain a deeper understanding of lung cancer.

With your support, research is helping to discover:

  • Faster ways to diagnosis lung cancer
  • More effective treatmentsto give families more precious time
  • And ultimately, a cure for lung cancer.
