I will walk with my lantern...
in remembrance of my Mum who devastatingly developed lung cancer as a never smoker. She fought bravely with an incredible attitude against this horrendous cancer that affects too many people.
Mum was a strong advocate and fundraiser for the Lung Foundation Australia for lung cancer research. I know she would want us continue doing that and find a way to prevent lung cancer, catch it early and cure this thing in others. She was so caring she wouldn’t want us to forget about this need now she’s gone.
I am also walking in support of a friend who has lung cancer.
Finally as someone who has respiratory issues and knows two people who have gotten lung cancer, it is a cause that hits close to home and reminds me how vulnerable we are.
Before Mum got cancer I didn’t know lung cancer is Australia’s most common cause of all cancer-related deaths or that there wasn’t an early detection test or cure. I just assumed there was. The anti smoking campaigns had me believe you were safe if you never smoked. It was a really rude awakening.
The, Lung Foundation Australia provides seed funding for the best and brightest researchers to undertake projects that support discoveries towards the prevention, management and cure of lung cancer.
I would so so appreciate any dollar that you can spare to go to the Lung Foundation Australia. Lung cancer is notorious for being first detected in the late stages and there’s no cure. It doesn’t get anywhere near as much research funding as cancers with better outcomes even though it kills not only more people than any other cancer but more people than many other well known cancers combined together. If you can help thank you!! X
Thank you for doing the walk this year. I’m sad I won’t make it. Mum would be grateful.
