TRAIL TO TRIUMPH - ULTRA VIRTUAL MARATHON !
As many of you know, I act for sufferers of asbestos and silica related lung diseases. On a daily basis, I speak to those suffering from mesothelioma and other dust diseases and see first-hand the heartbreaking impact that their conditions have on them and their families.
Over 3 days, 18 to 20 October, I will be participating in an Ultra Marathon (250km between Moranbah to Mackay) hosted by "Trail to Triumph" to raise awareness and funds for those suffering from mesothelioma, an incurable asbestos-related cancer. There are Ultra runners who will be running distances of 120/80/50km over the 3 days. Being on the Sunshine Coast, I will be participating virtually.
I am certainly no runner, but will give it my best shot to cover some distance, and luckily I am being backed up by Dan and the kids, who have decided they are going to participate with me, and as a family, we hope to cover 75km as a run/walk over the 3 days.
The Trail to Triumph Journey, fondly known as ‘Tony’s Journey’ was created in memory of Tony Britton who lost his battle with mesothelioma, a rare and currently incurable cancer caused by asbestos. His son Mat Britton has since founded ‘Trail to Triumph, an annual event, which started in 2014, which tackles the arduous terrain, running 250 kilometers, to commemorate the life of his dad and raise funds and awareness of mesothelioma including research and now funding the Tony Britton Memorial PhD Scholarship. This scholarship supports Dr S. Prabhakaran at Flinders University in research to improve outcomes for mesothelioma patients.
