Shine a Light Walk Melbourne 2025

I will walk with my lantern in memory of my dad, to honour his love, strength, and kindness, and whose absence is a daily reminder of why cancer research is so important.

In February this year, my dad was diagnosed with metastatic small cell carcinoma. Just eight months later, in September, we had to say goodbye. Watching someone you love fight this disease is something you never forget. It’s fast, it’s cruel, and it takes so much from the people it touches. Every day since, I’ve wished for just one more day with him.

Lung cancer is Australia’s biggest cancer killer, but there’s still so much we don’t know. Research is the only way forward — it gives hope, and it gives families more time together. Even one extra day is worth everything.

This month, I’m taking part in the Shine a Light campaign with Lung Foundation Australia to raise money for lung cancer research and support services. Every dollar helps fund new discoveries and provides care through programs and initiatives which support people and families through the hardest times.

Where there is light, there is hope. If you’re able, please consider donating or joining a community walk in memory of those we’ve lost — and for those still fighting. Together, we can help make a difference!
