I will walk with my lantern to shatter the stigma of lung cancer, fund life-saving research, and stand fiercely beside my wonderful friend and mentor who was recently diagnosed.

Every year, the Shine a Light campaign raises funds to brighten the future for Australians living with lung cancer. With your support, Lung Foundation Australia provides seed funding for the best and brightest researchers to undertake projects that support discoveries towards the prevention, management and cure of lung cancer. Scientific breakthroughs can take years to accomplish but every dollar makes a difference to the lives of people impacted by lung cancer. Alongside research, practical support is just as critical, so we empower people living with lung cancer to make informed choices about treatment and management, through Lung Foundation Australia's Lung Cancer Support Nurse service.

Help shine a light on lung cancer. Where there is light, there is hope. Be the light!

For many when they hear the words "lung cancer," there is an immediate, often unspoken assumption about smoking history. It is time to shatter that stigma for good.

The reality is that anybody with lungs can get lung cancer. Shockingly, 1 in 5 Australians (20%) diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked a single cigarette.

Despite the misconceptions, here are the hard facts we can no longer ignore:

• The Nation’s Biggest Cancer Killer: Lung cancer claims more Australian lives each year than breast, prostate, and brain cancers combined.

• The Funding Gap: Even though it has the highest mortality rate of any cancer, it receives a disproportionately low amount of research funding compared to other major cancers.

• A Life Every Hour: This devastating disease takes an Australian life roughly every 60 minutes.

This is why the Shine a Light on Lung Cancer campaign is so vital.

We need to rewrite these statistics. By donating, you are helping raise critical funds for ground-breaking research and life-changing practical support—like placing specialist lung cancer nurses where patients need them most.
