I will walk with my lantern because I am a survivor and want to raise funds and awareness to help others survive this terrible killer.
Did you know lung cancer is Australia’s BIGGEST cancer killer?
Research offers hope and your support helps keep hope alive for the 15,122 new Australians living with lung cancer. I was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 years ago even though I had never smoked in my life. I had surgery to remove the tumour, chemotherapy because it was also discovered in a lymph node and I am on a clinical trial with great doctors and nurses to help prevent the recurrence. Although my cancer was a rare and aggressive kind, I have almost beat the odds of a 50% chance of recurrence in two years. I am one of the lucky ones to have been provided 2 great years to spend with my family and friends.
I believe it is because of the great care and support provided by the doctors, nurses, family and friends as well as the money donated to research. Last year, your donations to my team amounted to $7,000+ which helped shine a light on lung cancer and fund ground breaking research to help people like me.
With your support, Lung Foundation Australia provides seed funding for the best and brightest researchers to undertake projects that support discoveries towards the prevention, management and cure of lung cancer. Scientific breakthroughs can take years to accomplish but every dollar makes a difference to the lives of people impacted by lung cancer. Alongside research, practical support and raising awareness is just as critical, so I urge you to raise awareness about lung cancer and forward to anyone who may be interested in donating or joining the walk.
Where there is light, there is hope. Every dollar builds a brighter future for Australians diagnosed with lung cancer.
Join me in fundraising, donate or join me on the walk. You will make a difference.
