I committed this year to walk the epic 800km Camino de Santiago across Spain and am now doing it with a greater purpose.
Having lost my dear dad to lung cancer 14 years ago, more recently my gorgeous sis-in-law Tracey has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Like one third of women diagnosed with lung cancer, Trace has never smoked. This disease can happen to anyone, it’s just not fair and I want to help raise funds and awareness, to assist Lung Foundation Australia in their mission to enable life-saving research, and champion programs and services to support Australians with lung disease and lung cancer to live their best life.
I set off on foot solo from France in early June, crossing the Pyrenees and heading west to Santiago de Compostela and the coast of Spain on the Camino Frances. I’ll be carrying just 8 kilos in my backpack and averaging 25-30kms a day with only a handful of rest days. What will be 1 million steps is not exactly a walk in the park but I’m looking forward to the challenge, more-so now that it’s even more personal.
I’ll of course share updates along the way but I encourage everyone to have a look at the fantastic work of the Lung Foundation of Australia.
1 in 3 Australians has a lung disease and lung cancer is the most prevalent of all cancers.
Donations will help fund projects that support discoveries towards the prevention, management and cure of lung cancer. Breakthroughs can take years to accomplish but each and every dollar makes a difference.
